Skyfall Research

As the James Bond franchise has such a big budget, there was a lot of marketing and advertising for it. Here are some of the things that I noticed:

TV TRAILERS:
Here are two of the TV trailers I saw on ad breaks while watching TV:

FULL TRAILER:

POSTERS:

BILLBOARDS:

APPS:
Although there were no official Skyfall apps in the Apple App Store, there was one that was created in collaboration with EON Productions (the production company behind Skyfall).
The fact that there were no official apps shows us that Skyfall is not particularly aimed at youths, and rather it is aimed at older people.

ADELE'S PROMOTIONAL SINGLE:
This was a particularly good use of cross-media convergence to promote Skyfall.
Adele is a very well known singer with many fans and so her single reached millions of people worldwide through radio, TV and the internet, and so in turn, the Skyfall movie was adevrtised to millions of people worldwide.
The single peaked at #2 in the UK Singles Chart and has proven to be Adele's most popular yet according to iTunes. I noticed when I was flicking through music TV channels that it was being played a lot on different channels, often simultaneously.

 CINEMAS:
As Skyfall is probably the most popular film this year, cinemas were advertising it more than any other film. There were lots of posters and information about the film, ticket machines had Skyfall as the background image, and there were Skyfall related promotions on.
Skyfall also had the most film showing times of any film in my local cinema, and was one of Vue's most popular films according to the website.
At my local cinema, there were 'adult only' screenings of Skyfall. This shows us that Skyfall was mainly aimed at an older audience.

INTERNET:
The internet is a very powerful tool in marketing films as it reaches millions of people across the world and costs nothing. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were used to advertise Skyfall. The Sony YouTube channel 'SonyPicsUK' had many Skyfall related videos posted, including trailers and video blogs.
However, there was not a particularly heavy internet presence. This is because Skyfall was not aimed at the young 'internet generation'.

Here are two of the video blogs from the 'SonyPicsUK' YouTube channel:

GAME:
There is a Skyfall Motorbike Chase game that can be played on iPhones and Android phones. On the 'SonyPicsUK' YouTube channel there was a link to a QR code, which once scanned, directs your phone to the web URL that hosts the game. This is a very clever use of technology to market the film.
